Bernard Baudry Les Granges Cab Franc 2020

Les Granges is the kind of Chinon you don’t need to think twice about, the type of bottle that somehow empties in the blink of an eye. Put a slight chill on it, pop the cork, and inhale its lively perfume: the floral fragrance and bright, juicy fruit—picture fresh-squeezed berries—are simply irresistible. On the palate, you’ll find a nimble frame and plush, silky tannins that make it dangerously gulpable. It has also been known to convert those who generally shy away from the Cabernet Franc grape, so please do be kind and share.

Tasting Notes: On the palate, you’ll find a nimble frame and plush, silky tannins that make it dangerously gulpable. It has also been known to convert those who generally shy away from the Cabernet Franc grape, so please do be kind and share. The fruit is hand-harvested, destemmed and moved by gravity into unlined cement vats. Fermentation with native yeasts and without sulfur or temperature control lasts from two weeks to two months. The wine is aged nine to ten months in cement before being bottled without filtration. It is the first red of any vintage to be released.

Top Food Pairings for Les Granges 2020:
Charcuterie & Appetizers: Cured meats, pâté, and pork-based starters.
Pork & Light Meats: Grilled pork, pork tenderloin with herbs, or pork with prunes.
Poultry & Game Birds: Roasted chicken, duck breast (especially with a fruit reduction), and game birds. Beef: Simple, grilled steak or classic roast beef.
Vegetarian: Grilled vegetables, mushroom-based dishes (like mushroom risotto or thyme-roasted mushrooms), and lentils.
Cheeses: Loire Valley goat cheeses (chèvre) are a classic pairing

Sourced from a single block on the valley floor, where the vines have their feet in free-draining sandy/gravel soils, the 2020 Chinon Les Granges is made a lighter, fruit-driven style with a fine-grained tannic profile. This flows easily with no sense of anything being forced. It's full of bright raspberry, violets and a hint of blackberries and cream; there's a mere whiff of reduction on opening, so give it a little bit of air. Easy to like, bright and fresh and can be enjoyed. 89 points Rebecca Gibb MW - Vinous
