From a Swartland Vineyard planted in 1981 on iron rich granite. Matured in old 300l French oak barrels for 10 months.
Tasting Notes: Exotic aromatics of mandarin, fynbos and potpourri. On the palate the fruit purity is shy at first but reveals itself beautifully after time in the glass. The acidity is sharp edged with the wine finishing long and dry. This is a sophisticated, age-worthy Chenin Blanc that starts reserved but opens up beautifully, showing great purity, balance, and intensity, making it a standout wine
Grapes from the same 1981 vineyard as above, this a barrel selection. Elusive and enchanting aromatics of lime and soft citrus, potpourri and fynbos plus some flinty reduction. The palate is linear and extremely tightly wound – punchy acidity and a super-dry finish, the fruit density slow to reveal itself but undoubtedly present. Alc: 12.5%. CE’s rating: 95/100.
