The The Fledge & Co. Katvis Pinot Noir 750ml is an unconventional and compelling South African red wine. Winemakers Leon Coetzee and Margeaux Nel craft this blend from multiple cool-climate sites. The name “Katvis” (Catfish) honors the tenacious, adaptable, and unconventional spirit of the wine. It combines fruit from Elgin, Tradouw, and the Klein Karoo. This approach defies a single regional designation. The result is a vibrant, lithe, and aromatic Pinot Noir.
- The 2021 Vintage achieved a superb 92 Points from Tim Atkin MW.
- James Suckling praised a recent vintage as being a “spicy Pinot” with good structure.
- Critics frequently note its complexity, litheness, and approachable character.
Tasting Notes: An #ElegantlyElgin Pinot Noir & particularly poignant cool climate vintage rendition indeed – red cherry, dried cranberries, raspberry & damson, subtle exotic spice & floral aromatics, undertones of Black Tea, strawberry compote & macerated mulberry, all cloistered by ripe tannin, whisps of oak spice, tell-tale savoury finish and acid twirl. Katvis pairs perfectly with grilled duck breasts, braised lamb shoulder, beef Wellington, coq au vin & other farm fare favourites, as well as soft fromage & charcuterie or simply sipped on its own. Best decanted & served lightly chilled. Medium term cellaring will allow this wine to reveal its complexities. 2023 is a particularly open and fruit forward vintage.
