Hogan wines was started in 2014 and is a small, family-run business with Jocelyn Hogan Wilson as winemaker. We make our wines in the beautiful Banhoek Valley and source our grapes from various regions of the Western Cape, selecting vineyards suited in terms of climate and soil to the varietals we make.
Named after the song by the Chemical Brothers. The grapes were sourced from a 21-year-old, trellised Chardonnay vineyard planted on Summercourt Farm, on the Simonsberg Mountain at 400m altitude. The grapes were handpicked, hand sorted and gently whole bunch pressed. The juice was settled overnight at 10 degrees. It then went to barrel for natural fermentation in 100% old French oak barrels (225l and 300l) followed by natural malolactic fermentation. As little batonage as possible. 10 months total in oak.
Tasting Notes: On the nose floral perfume, herbs, citrus, with subtle leesy/yeasty character. Pure, clean fruit, crisp acidity, pithy finish, great freshness, and vibrancy. A refined, precise, and elegant expression of Chardonnay, not overly opulent but full of energy.
