2022 marks the third vintage that Pinotage has entered the frame, and whereas the ’21 vintage leaned heavier on Mourvèdre, this blend is a more generous spread of Cinsaut, Syrah, and Pinotage. Whole bunch fermented under semi-carbonic conditions for 8 days in stainless steel tanks. Aged in a mixture of different size old barrels which help preserve these vibrant flavours.
Tasting Notes: Tart red fruit (cranberry, raspberry, plum), rose petal, fynbos, white pepper, earthy notes, subtle spice, saline finish. Plush, smooth, light, energetic, with fine, powdery tannins and bright acidity. This blend presents a nose of cinnamon, wild berries and hints of graphite. The palate is earthy, with wood spices and savory notes of cherries and herbs dancing over a soft mouthfeel. Serve chilled and enjoy in summer.
46% Mourvèdre, 24% Cinsault, 18% and 12% Pinotage. Released last year, this still has pretty aromatics (red cherry, floral perfume and fynbos) but the palate is starting to look lean and angular – drink up. Alc: 11.5%. CE’s rating: 90/100.
