Once referred to as a “party starter,” this vibrant Cinsault-Syrah-Mourvèdre blend is the perfect year-round party in a glass. It drinks more as a quaffable red than a rosé. The grapes were carefully sourced from bush vine sites in the Swartland on a mix of decomposed granite and laterite soils. The Cinsault brings this buzz of awesome flavors to the party while the Syrah contributes to the freshness and structure, and the Mourvèdre provides a subtle earthy through-line.
In this instance, facial hair symbolizes the three different styles of wine red(beard), rose (clean skin) and the light red(moustache). This wine represents the lighter red style and the word pink describes the colour as it’s a mix between a pink/light red colour. A short 3-day skin contact fermentation before continuing in small old barrels for another 5 months. Racked into stainless steel where it spends another 6 weeks before bottling. Grapes: Syrah & Cinsault
Tasting Notes: Electric magenta and loud from the jump with red currant, cherry, and strawberry and a hit of herbs and cracked pepper. It’s juicy up front and grippy in the back with a touch of tobacco leaf.
48% Cinsault, 35% Syrah and 17% Mourvédre – the Cinsault fermented whole-bunch and left on the skins for four days, the other two varieties pressed directly to barrel, maturation lasting five months. Pale red in colour. Cherry, strawberry, red apple, candyfloss and fynbos on the nose. The palate is fruit and fresh, the finish slightly salty. A touch simple but super-quaffable. Alc: 12.5%. CE’s rating: 88/100.
