The Kara-Tara Chardonnay has classic notes of pear, lemon and grapefruit, with hints of pineapple and almond marzipan on the palate. The wine has a fine, mineral finish. The oaking is subtle—maturation in a combination of stainless steel and neutral oak barrels ensures that the vibrant fruit flavours are not overwhelmed.
Tasting Notes: Balances bright zesty citrus notes and tropical fruits with a cool minerality and saline quality, resulting in a fresh and elegant interpretation of a classic varietal. Colour: Pale straw. Aroma: Tropical fruit, orange and lime zest and butterscotch. Palate: passionfruit, pineapple and flint. Body: Well-integrated acidity, creamy mouthfeel and a rich mineral finish.
‘Using raw material from Elgin, the Overberg and Stellenbosch, this is a refreshingly medium-bodied Chardonnay with only 12.5% alcohol. Aromas of lemongrass and petrichor segue into a palate of citrus zest, subtle nectarine and scented 10% new oak. 2024-29.’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2024, 92/100
