This is not a typical, fruit-forward Chenin Blanc but rather a serious, intriguing, and refreshing wine with great tension and drive, making it a standout.
This year we experimented with a bit more time on skins. This has given the midpalate a bit more texture and palate weight even though the alcohol has remained low. Normal house style keeping it simple; crush, destalk and allowing it to naturally ferment in open fermenters.
This year is showing more fruit; peach, pears and melons. This wine remains a multi-dimensional experience, continually revealing different nuances and flavours. The palate is bold and weighty, even though the wine’s alcohol is below 12% like previous years.
Tasting Notes: On the nose golden sultanas, honey and white pear. Savoury, salty entry with a broad pithy mid-palate. Gooseberry and lime dominates the long, dry finish ever changing as it reacts with the oxygen in your glass. Very thought-provoking.
Food Pairing: Rich seafood(shellfish & Seabass, pork belly with rich nutty sauces, and The "saline" or salty finish makes it excellent with salty, savory foods (oysters, cured meats).
Impressively intense for a wine with just 11.5% alcohol, this Chenin shows the influence of youthful Alice Verburg at Luddite. Fermented on skins for 30 days, it's a semi-orange style with very little wood influence, flavours of yellow apple and quince and impressive minerality and palate length. 2025-29. Tim Atkin 93
