Marelise Niemann has been pounding the Grenache drum since 2011 and has done as much as anyone to promote the variety.’ – Tim Atkin MW
The Momento Paardeberg Grenache Noir 2022 is a beautifully pure expression of this versatile grape. Winemaker Marelise Niemann crafts this wine with a delicate, hands-off approach. She sources the 100% Grenache Noir grapes from the Paardeberg in the Swartland. The vines grow on decomposed granite soils. These soils give the wine its signature elegant and refined character. Marelise employs minimal intervention to highlight the grape’s natural delicacy. The 2022 vintage showcases wonderful energy and tension.
Tasting Notes: Black tea, tomato leaf and a pleasant hint of struck match show first on the nose ahead of cherry and fig. Raspberry suckers, ripe blackberries and a forest floor porcini define the palate while the finish is flinty, tense and grippy. Structure that promises long ageing potential. Food Pairing - Greek Style lamb chops with olive tapenade and roasted cherry tomatoes. Or with a lovely four seasons pizza, artichokes, olives, ham and mushrooms.
