Haarlem To Hope is a blend of Chenin Blanc and Semillon. These varieties were brought to the Cape by the early Dutch settlers and were the first varieties to be planted. In the years that followed Chenin Blanc and Semillon formed the cornerstone of grape growing in the Cape of Good Hope.
Blend information: Experience the harmonious blend of 78% Chenin Blanc and 22% Semillon. A fusion that epitomises the essence of our rich heritage.
Tasting Notes: Aromas of fruit, spice and a touch of the granitic soil’s minerality, which follows through onto the palate, creates tension and excitement all at once. Nectarine, quince and melon are given depth by touches of spice, lemongrass and ginger, while hints of florals provide a further dimension. Time in older oak and concrete egg, with close lees contact, gives the wine breadth and depth on the palate and keeps the focus with a saline and savoury linger.
Food suggestions: Peri-peri pork belly, whole grilled yellowtail with ratatouille, or crispy artichoke for an unforgettable culinary experience.
78% Chenin Blanc, 22% Semillon, the latter component given skin contact for seven days. Matured for 10 months, 75% in older oak and 25% in concrete. Pretty aromatics of flowers, herbs, citrus, peach and a hint of apple. The palate is pure and poised. Good fruit weight, punchy acidity and a savoury finish. CE’s rating: 94/100.
