This is the first single-varietal bottling of this component, previously used in the Rall Red blend
Striking single-varietal expression from Donovan Rall, the 2024 Rall Grenache Noir offers a refined, terroir-driven taste of Paardeberg’s ancient soils. Crafted in tiny batches with meticulous whole-bunch fermentation and aged in seasoned 300 L barrels, it's a pure and polished reflection of South Africa’s coolest vintage yet.
Donovan Rall used fruit from a Paardeberg vineyard to make a limited batch of 100% Grenache Noir. Fermented and carefully extracted on 100% whole bunches and then matured for 10 months in third-fill French Oak.
Tasting Notes: Shows intense, nuanced aromas of red and dark cherry, violets, fynbos, and earth. The palate is medium-bodied with a "sappy" and "cohesive" structure, featuring raspberry, plum skin, and a distinct, persistent, savoury, and peppery finish. Crisp and persistent, marked by tart cherry, a touch of cocoa, and a whisper of fynbos herbs, leaving a clean mouth-watering impression.
Food Pairing: Chill slightly and serve with lamb chops, duck breast, mushroom pasta, charcuterie, game , or creamy fatty cheeses like brie and camembert.
New to the outstanding Rall range, this Grenache used to be a component of the Rall Red, but yielded enough from its one hectare in 2024 to produce 2,074 stand-alone bottles. Showing the freshness and zip of Paardeberg granite, it's serious, focused and intense, with black cherry and blood orange flavours and a spine of tannin. 2026-32. Tim Atkin 94
