“This blend of Chenin Blanc 69%, Verdelho 29% and Viognier 2% that started it all for Rall Wines back in 2008 now already in its seventeenth vintage remains the cornerstone of what we do. No other wine in the portfolio has achieved the level of consistency year on year over the last decade or so and the 2024 is no different. Grapes grown mainly in the granitic soils of the Paardeberg and now also containing a big portion of fruit from the vineyard used for Noa this 2022 is certainly the most focused and age worthy white in this years release. All components fermented naturally and matured separately in a combination of 2000 litre foudre, seasoned small French oak and concrete eggs before blending and bottling after 10 months.” – Donovan Rall
Tasting Notes: A of "touch of flinty reduction" followed by citrus, floral perfume, and herbs. It is characterized by a creamy texture on the mid-palate, with vibrant acidity leading to a savoury, dry finish.
Food Pairing: This versatile white blend pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes. Seafood: Grilled prawns, seared scallops, or lemon-herb salmon. Poultry: Roasted chicken with herbs or turkey breast with citrus glaze. Vegetarian: Butternut squash risotto or a grilled vegetable medley.
First made in 2008, when it was a much richer wine, Rall White is still "the cornerstone of what we do", according to Donovan Rall. Combining Chenin Blanc, 29% Verdelho and 2% Viognier, it's an effortlessly complex, self-assured assemblage that has impressive texture and freshness, layers of beeswax, chamomile, citrus and apricot and a whisper of oak. 2026-33 - Tim Atkin 95
