Our Free to be Red is a whole bunch, carbonic style Syrah produced from our Syrah vineyard on the Estate. Fermented as whole bunched in concrete tank and matured in the same tank for 12 months creates a deliciously fresh and elegant wine with a wonderfully perfumy aroma of black currents, cloves and violet. The palate has vibrant fruit with a beautifully coated acidity and supple tannins which give it length.
The winemaking process began with the use of whole, uncrushed grape bunches, initiating fermentation under a protective CO₂ atmosphere to prevent oxidation. Minimal movement of the fermentation tank was maintained to preserve the integrity of the berries, allowing a natural fermentation over three weeks. Post-fermentation, the pressed juice was reintegrated with the free-run juice to enhance quality. The wine was then matured for 12 months in concrete tanks, allowing it to develop its characteristic aromas and flavors.
Tasting Notes: This Syrah presents a dense ruby-red color, offering lively aromas of bright red berries, including ripe strawberries and red currants. Subtle undertones of blackcurrant leaves, raspberry water, and a hint of white pepper add complexity and intrigue. On the palate, a burst of fresh, gentle acidity enhances the wine's vibrancy, with flavors of juicy mulberries and black cherries unfolding gracefully. These fruit notes are balanced by a savory character, featuring hints of ginger and ground pepper, culminating in a harmonious interplay of fruit, acidity, and spice.
