The idea behind Full On Misfit was to create a delicious, drinkable yet textured white wine that is wholly unique; it’s not trying to be a Rhône blend or a Portuguese blend or even a traditional Cape blend for that matter – just a misfit blend from the West Coast of South Africa’s Western Cape.
The 2024 Full on Misfit white blend is a wine from 3 different vineyards, located beteween 15 and 25km from the cold Atlantic ocean, around the town of Vredendal on the West Coast of South Africa. Grapes were picked early in the morning to preserve freshness, then cooled down before being crushed the next morning. This year it is made up of 3 different varietals, 75% Chenin blanc, 18% Colombar and 7% Harslevelu.
All the grapes were picked and whole bunch pressed separately before being spontaniously fermented in Stainless steel and 500 liter barrels for a minimum of a month. After fermentation the wines are aged separately in 500 liter barrels for 8 months, then blended and left to age for another 3 months before being
bottled.
Tasting Notes: Nose: Floral, lime, yellow fruits , minerals, Kelp. On the mouth there is an intense sensation of saltiness with hints of lime and grapefruit coming through. Expect a complex, youthful profile of pear, white peach, lime, and salty, savoury Japanse nori notes. The 2024 is expected to show great depth and potential to age for 3 to 5+ years.
Food Pairing: Because of its intense salinity and bright, green, and flinty style, this wine is ideal for raw or lightly cooked seafood, particularly Cape salmon, yellowfin tuna sashimi, or fresh oysters.
