The Granietsteen is from a single old vineyard (planted 1978) of Chenin Blanc. Incredibly focused and intense wine. A real saline edge giving the palate a savoury aspect which works with the notes of lemon, apple and pear beautifully. Long and concentrated, this is one of Stellenbosch’s best Chenin Blancs.
A highly acclaimed wine, described as a complex, mineral-driven wine with intense aromatics of fynbos, citrus, and stone fruit (peach, pear) with flinty notes, featuring a taut, energetic palate, bright acidity, and a long, saline finish, showing remarkable clarity and concentration from old vines on decomposed granite.
"You're nervous when you handle the grapes," says Bernhard Bredell of what he sources from the south-eastern slope of the Sinai Hill. This incredible Chenin Blanc has chamomile and white flower aromas, incredible energy and focus, granitic minerality and a savoury, umami and citrus-driven palate. 2024-32. 96 Tim Aktin
‘Grapes from a vineyard planted in 1978. 80% fermented and matured in concrete egg, 20% in old oak. Citrus, white peach and a touch of lanolin on the nose. The palate is taut – super-dense fruit matched by punchy acidity, a lightly grippy quality to the finish. Alc: 12.45%.’ – Christian Eedes
