The latest vintage has a touch more Verdelho than previous years, which provides the wine with more structure. Natural ferment in Foudre and old oak for 10 months. Lime acidity cuts through the more robust varieties nicely. A great wine with food or on its own.
32% Verdelho followed by 29% Chenin Blanc, 17% Viognier, 15% Roussanne and 7% grenache Blanc.
Verdelho is dominant for the first time in the Vuurberg White, selected to bring greater tension and natural acidity to balance the riper expression of the Chenin, Roussanne and Viognier in this vintage. The Verdelho is sourced from two contrasting sites: schist soils from Riebeek Kasteel and deep red clay from Stellenbosch.
Chenin Blanc and Viognier from the Vuurberg farm (deep, rich clay / koffieklip). Additional Chenin Blanc, along with grenache blanc destined for a fresher, more mineral-driven component, comes from old vines on granite soils in the Paardeberg. Roussanne is grown on schist soils from the Riebeekberg.
Tasting Notes: Offers a slightly shy nose that opens to reveal nuances of stone fruit, orange, hay, earth, and leesy complexity. The palate is broad yet focused, boasting a rich, full-bodied texture with a persistent, savory finish.
