Blend: 85% Cinsaut, 15% Syrah
Ann Faure is the Stellenbosch label of the Craven family, built around exploring different sites and varieties, and how they work together. The name honours Jeanine's family heritage of farming and is also the middle names of their children, "blended together". The Cinsaut comes from old bushvines in Firgrove, and the Syrah is bushvine fruit from the lower foothills of the Helderberg, both on decomposed granite. The approach in the cellar is very hands off. The two varieties were vinified separately in concrete fermenters and the juice fermented naturally, with no additions. Malolactic fermentation was allowed to run its course so the wine is completely stable. The components were then aged mostly in concrete tanks, with a small portion in neutral 500L French oak barrels. The only addition is a small amount of sulphur after malolactic. The abstract label by Mariette Kotze is a rendition of a farm topographic map, reflecting the idea of different vineyard sites coming together as one.
