Part of our Projects Range, Madame Lucy's Cap Classique began as a heartfelt passion project and has evolved into a distinguished wine worthy of acclaim in its own right. Now in its ninth vintage, this wine carries the memory of our cherished French Toy Poodle, Lucy, whose playful spirit and unwavering companionship inspired its creation.

The 2022 vintage benefited from abundant winter rains and full dam levels, setting the foundation for a cool, even growing season. This cuvée showcases a thoughtful selection: 25% Chardonnay from the cool heights of Elgin, 50% Chardonnay from the mountain vineyards of Ceres, and 25% Pinot Noir from our own Gabriëlskloof estate.

All grapes underwent gentle, extended whole-bunch pressing to preserve delicate aromatics. The juice was naturally fermented and aged separately in older oak barrels for six months before blending and bottling in August 2022. Second fermentation occurred under crown cap, with the wine resting on lees for 20 months before disgorgement with zero dosage in March 2024.

Tasting Notes: This bone-dry Cap Classique presents with remarkable freshness and linear precision. The nose reveals an enticing interplay of bright citrus and toasted brioche reminiscent of lemon meringue pie. On the palate, chalky minerality provides a structure for flavours of crisp Granny Smith apple and grapefruit zest, whilst gentle lees contact adds subtle roundness and complexity. The mousse is finely integrated, leading to a focused, mouth-watering finish that lingers with elegant persistence.
