Geographica Wines is a premium wine project by acclaimed winemaker Chris Williams (Foundry Wines), focusing on site-specific, terroir-driven wines from exceptional Stellenbosch vineyards, like old-vine Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc, often using traditional clay vessels (dolia) for maturation to express unique vineyard character and place, offering intense, balanced wines.
Chardonnay grapes sourced from the magnificent Tierhoek property high in the mountains of Piekenierskloof, at 760m above sea level on loam soils, with the cold Atlantic ocean moderating the summer days. The diurnal difference between warm days and cool nights on account of the elevation creates a wine of intensity and focus while retaining freshness and purity.
Tasting Notes: Is luminous green-gold in the glass. Intense aromas of papaya, mown hay, oatmeal and preserved lemon are evident with hints of mineral, struck flint and brioche. On the palate the wine exhibits great prescence with flavours of poached pear, yellow apple, hazelnuts and citrus zestiness. Opulent yet focused, the wine shows a silky texture and great depth of flavour and a lingering, persistent aftertaste.
Sourced from Tierhoek in Piekenierskloof, this opens with distinctive earthy and hay-like aromatics before revealing notes of pear, peach, citrus, and a hint of yeasty complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with vibrant acidity and a dry finish. Focused with a nervy tension about it. Alc: 13.41%. CE’s rating: 93/100.
