Looking for a Semillon that reminds you of an elegant wooded Chardonnay? Glendwood Semillon is perfect for that style!
Grapes were picked at 21°B, gentle crushed and was cold macerated on the skins for 8 hours before pressing. The juice was left to settle for two days and wild yeast, fermentation occurred over an 9-day period in a stainless steel tank. The wine spent 27 months in a 3rd fill 300L French oak barrel.
Only 400 bottles produced.
The 2023 Franschhoek harvest was shaped by a variable season of early flooding, summer heat spikes and late rains, resulting in lower yields but ultimately producing wines of very good quality with balanced ripeness and elegant structure.
Tasting Notes: Straw yellow. Ripe melon, waxiness coated by spicy oak. Explosive oak and vanilla creaminess on palate entry. A zesty acidity adds freshness, but the brightness thereof demands integration-time. Further cellaring.
Food Pairing: A beautifully textured white wine known for its crisp acidity, creamy mouthfeel, and rich citrus profile. It pairs beautifully with gourmet sushi, steamed or grilled seafood, and creamy pastas or rich cheeses. Seafood: Freshly shucked oysters, pan-seared scallops, or a buttery seared sea bass. The wine's acidity balances the rich, sweet flesh of the seafood perfectly. Sushi & Asian Flavors: GlenWood's estate is famous for pairing their white wines with premium sushi. Try it with aburi salmon nigiri or lightly spiced Thai dishes. Creamy Dishes: Mushroom risotto, rich fish pies, or veal scaloppine. The wine's waxy texture elegantly cuts through heavy sauces.
