A crowd-pleasing Swartland red with real depth and a feel-good story behind it.
Inzuzo’s Big Picture Red is a generous blend of 70% Shiraz, 20% Mourvèdre and 10% Grenache Noir from the Swartland. The Shiraz gives it its juicy core, Mourvèdre adds savoury interest and Grenache brings a bright, lifted edge. Inzuzo is a community-focused wine project supporting initiatives in Sir Lowry’s Pass, but the wine itself is refreshingly uncomplicated: ripe fruit, soft tannins and plenty of character.
Ruby-coloured and immediately inviting, it opens with red cherry, raspberry and a touch of spice. The palate is medium-bodied and smooth, with juicy fruit carrying through the middle and soft tannins keeping the finish easy and balanced. It is the kind of red that works just as well lightly chilled on a warm evening as it does alongside a proper meal.
Tasting notes: Enticing aromas of red fruit, with juicy cherry and raspberry at the forefront. The palate is rounded and fruit-driven, with soft tannins, a medium body and a balanced, approachable finish.
Food pairing: A versatile red for relaxed, flavourful cooking. Braai meats: Lamb chops, boerewors or sticky pork ribs work beautifully with the wine’s ripe fruit and gentle spice. Slow-cooked dishes: Beef ragu, a smoky lamb shoulder or a rich tomato-based stew will bring out its savoury side. Vegetarian dishes: Try it with aubergine parmigiana, a mushroom-and-lentil bake or wood-fired pizza topped with roasted peppers, olives and fennel sausage.
