The Chave family has grown wine in Hermitage since 1481, currently in its 16th generation with Jean-Louis Chave at the helm. 

The 2020 Jean-Louis Chave Selection Hermitage Rouge "Farconnet" is widely lauded as an exceptional, high-value northern Rhône Syrah that provides a more accessible, earlier-drinking alternative to the main domaine wine, while still maintaining high standards of quality. Critics and reviewers often highlight its intense, smoky, and mineral-driven character.

Farconnet is named after the nobleman who gifted the Chave family their first Hermitage vineyard, and the wine draws from three named lieux-dits on the Hermitage hill, Diognières, Péléat, and Greffieux, each contributing something different (spice, finesse, structure)

Saturated violet color. Smoky, mineral-accented black and blue fruit scents are complicated by olive paste, licorice and f loral nuances that build in the glass. Juicy and energetic in the mouth, offering vibrant blackberry, boysenberry, candied violet and smoky bacon flavors that become sweeter with air. The f loral and mineral notes come back strong on the penetrating finish, which shows outstanding persistence and fine-grained, harmonious tannins.
