This classic blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon is a complex and appealing wine that develops beautifully. Blackcurrant leaf, pineapple, pear and grapefruit backed by subtle wood spice. The palate is tightly wound with characteristic salinity, texture and length.

Grapes are given a fair amount of sun exposure through the season to ensure ripe fruit is processed. Overnight cooling is followed by whole bunch pressing and oxidative handling. The juice is transferred to a selection of 500L barrels (20% new) and concrete eggs where spontaneous fermentation and aging takes place. Malolactic fermentation takes place in the Semillon and occasionally the Sauvignon blanc depending on the vintage. Wines are aged for 12 months in barrel and concrete followed by a further 2-3 months in stainless steel, and finally bottling. 

Tasting Notes: Freshness, and minerality, with, notes of white pear, lime, green apple, and subtle, smoky oak. It is full-bodied but fresh palate, with a long, waxy finish. The Sémillon beautifully complements the Sauvignon Blanc, and the palate is well-balanced with acidity and impressive weight. The pretty, floral finish makes this a standout wine from the vintage. 

This is the fifteenth vintage of Duncan Savage's icon white and it's up there with his best releases. Combining Sauvignon Blanc and 21% Semillon from three different sites, it's an effortlessly complex, self-assured blend with fine lees, layers of blackcurrant leaf, seaweed and lime, subtle wood and a savoury, salty undertone. 71% Sauvignon Blanc, 29% Semillon from Stellenbosch, the Overberg and Villiersdorp. Matured for 12 months in 500-litre barrels (20% new) and concrete eggs before a further two months in stainless steel. Arresting aromatics of white peach, blue and black berries plus a pronounced but not unpleasant flinty reduction. The palate is harmonious without being too clean or overtly fruity – dense, textural, high in acidity with a savoury finish. A dramatic wine. Alc: 14%. CE’s rating: 95/100.
