Refined, expressive and unmistakably an Elgin Pinot Noir
Crafted from a selection of vineyards high up in the cool-climate Elgin Valley, the Shannon Vineyards Rockview Ridge Pinot Noir is a beautifully layered expression of site and precision winemaking. The vineyards, planted on a combination of Bokkeveld shale, clay and silica-rich sandstone soils, produce fruit with both elegance and structure. The grapes are chilled before sorting, followed by cold maceration and a combination of wild and cultured yeast fermentation to preserve purity and complexity. Matured for approximately 12 months in French oak barrels, the wine balances bright red fruit with savoury depth and fine tannins, showcasing the hallmark finesse of Shannon Vineyards.
Tasting notes: Bright ruby in colour with lifted aromas of raspberry, wild strawberry, cherry and subtle floral perfume. The palate is silky and refined, revealing layers of red berries, currants and delicate spice, supported by earthy undertones and beautifully integrated oak. Fresh acidity and fine tannins give the wine energy and length, finishing with elegance and purity.
Food pairing: A wonderfully versatile Pinot Noir. Crispy-skinned duck: The bright acidity of the wine cuts through the rich fat of the duck, while fruit notes complement plum or hoisin glazes. Earthy mushrooms: Mushroom risotto, wild mushroom crostini, or sautéed wild mushrooms mirror the forest-floor characteristics of the wine. Seared salmon: A brilliant match for lighter, oily fish where the fruit flavors elevate the dish. Roasted game and pork: Roast pork loin or roasted quail pair exquisitely with the wine's gentle tannins.
